Zelkova

Zelkova

A characteristic Korean hardwood with bold grain and warm colour. Figured growth can produce especially fluid, three-dimensional patterns.

WOODWAY MAGAZINEFamiliar in Korea as the large shade tree at village entrances. Its beautiful grain and hardness made it a traditional choice for chests and grain bins. Figured growth is known in Korean as yongmok.

Bold growth-ring patterns overlap like waves on a golden-brown ground. Figured slices combine knots and openings in sculptural forms.
